Hope everyone is having a good week so far! Everyone is back to the school grind and with that brings the challenge of juggling time. “What time do I need to be here?” “Who has what activities today?” With all the juggling going on I tend to give up the things I do to accommodate the needs of others. And wouldn’t you know the first thing I volunteer as tribute is my workout. It hasn’t even been a full week and I have missed 3 workouts due to scheduling conflicts. And I have noticed it – in my attitude, in my alertness, and in my all around well-being. I got to talking to a friend of mine and she was telling me how she was just as busy as I am and still had time to get her workout in. I looked at her and said “How the heck do you do it?!” Her response was perfect – she said “I make it a priority, not an option”.
Later that day I had to sit down and figure out a schedule that worked for ME! I wanted to workout and I needed it too! So I rearranged some things and talked with my trainer about different training times and set myself into a new routine. One where my workout was at the top of the list.
Some reasons I realized I needed to make this a priority were my general health, my self-perception, my energy level, and my stress level. The no brainer here is general health – the more you workout the healthier you are and the better you feel. But those other 3 reasons echoed loud in my head when I missed those 3 days. My self-perception didn’t change too much but I knew if I let it go on longer it would have. My energy level was extremely low by the end of the week. I felt like a drained battery who was so charged at the beginning of the week and so dead by the end. I barely had the energy to do everyday tasks. It’s crazy how much my stamina changed in such a short amount of time. The reason that rang the loudest in my head was my stress level. I never realized how much of a stress relief working out was for me. It was my calm place in the midst of all the chaos. I realized at that point that I had to make my workout a priority and not just an option.
Don’t make excuses. We all have the same 24 hours in a day and we are the ones in charge of how we delegate our time. You can’t earn what you don’t work for and you won’t see results if you don’t put in the work. So make your schedule and put your workout at the top of your list (even if it means it’s at a different time than usual). All that matters is you get it in! I know I will everyday now because I realized how important it was to me and my sanity. So join me in this next step in our fitness journey and find your “Why” that puts your workout as a priority. I promise, you won’t regret it!
